SANTANA EST. 1935
HISTORY

1957-1960 Willis Short. An interior designer's touch...

Following Bogart’s death, Santana was purchased by Willis Short, a San Diego interior decorator. Short raced the boat locally and made one striking change in her appearance. He removed two cabinet doors of diamond-shaped leaded-glass panes that had flanked the entrance to the galley. Short felt the cabinets made the cabin too dark and he replaced them with translucent panels. These panels evidently were made of fiberglass that had seahorses and seaweed laminated in between, which was then accented with a light behind. Other than this creative contribution to the interior décor, not much more is known about Short and his activities aboard Santana.
